There are so many lighting alternatives out there other than the typical Disney or Poo lamps that go with the set of crib bedding. Be crative and try something that will spark their imagination like The Libellule. It likes to fly in big open spaces and stairways. As an uplighter it also throws the shadow of its wings across the ceiling.
